Australian Wilderness Photos
Here at Australian Wilderness Photos we would like to introduce you to Lindsay Hope and his passion for the beauty of our natural environment.
There is no greater gift than the gift of life. It is how we use this gift that determines our journey. I was gifted a childhood life of growing up on the Blue Mountains of New South Wales in the 1950s and 1960s. Wandering and exploring, at different times, with my father, my dog and my mates, through this Australian high country bush-land wilderness, kindled in me a love of nature and a strong curiosity to discover and explore the natural environment of our Great South Land.
I have always experienced exhilaration, enormous energy, relaxation, peace, and personal fulfillment when walking, climbing, exploring and photographing throughout the fascinating and fragile wilderness areas of Australia. Here, where significant ecosystems and features of intricate beauty are protected, the sights, sounds and scents of the natural world fill me with joy and free the spirit. My wanderings have also taken me to wonderful, colourful, cheerfully peopled, built environments and these too are included in this book.
After leaving the Blue Mountains as a young man in 1966, my spiritual and photographic journey led me first to Tasmania, for a land-surveying career, and to satisfy my urge to fully explore and absorb the wild country of our island state. Through bush walking expeditions with the Launceston Walking Club I was able to experience the grandeur of the Tasmanian wilderness, with journeys to many regions including the original Lake Pedder, the legendary Federation Peak in the South West Wilderness and the magnificent Cradle Mountain- Lake St. Clair National Park in the north west of the state. Tasmania, with its wild and beautiful World Heritage Wilderness, is my spiritual home.
After leaving Tasmania in 1973 to continue my career on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, and for my wife, Sue, and I to raise our family, I have over the years wandered, explored and photographed throughout, and around, mainland Australia. This Great South Land, with its’ quiet beauty, bold colours and wonderful people, captured my imagination.
My photographic explorations have taken me to Fraser Island, the Great Barrier Reef islands, Hinchinbook Island, the Far North Queensland Rainforests, Litchfield and Kakadu National Parks, Central Australia and Uluru, the Kimberley, the Pilbara, Shark Bay, Cape Le Grand, the Nullabor Plain, the Great Ocean Road, the Otway Ranges, the Blue Mountains and South East Queensland. Many of these special places are also World Heritage Wilderness areas.
In recent years we have established a part time Tasmanian base in a little shack at Bicheno on the east coast. The photography of this part of my life journey, I hope captures some of the fascination I have for this colourful and inspiring natural region.
During the past twelve years I have screened my Sunventure audio-visual shows on the Sunshine Coast. These audio-visuals have enabled me to share my around Australia images, commentary and musical backing with audiences, to hopefully inspire others to care for our island continent’s natural environment, and to encourage the preservation of our remaining unprotected wilderness areas.
Over the years many folk from these audiences have asked if they could obtain prints of some of the images in my shows. This book takes you on my Sunventure journey of discovery. I sincerely hope that you enjoy viewing these images. They represent for me an appreciation and a celebration of the simple things in life, the exhilaration of discovery and the colourful variety in this Great South Land.
Australian Wilderness Photos is excited to introduce this wonderfully passionate photographer, who has decicated many hours to capturing our Heritage
